What raw materials are lead glass made of?
2022-07-14

Medical lead glass is notoriously difficult to understand. Medical lead glass is usually used as inspection window in hospital radiology department or scientific research department, because lead glass has radiation protection and transparency. What is the main component of lead glass? How does it protect against radiation? Below, Shandong Loncin Radiation Protection will share with you the structure of lead glass.

The protection of lead glass adopts the principles of shielding protection and distance protection. Shielding refers to the use of a substance with a high atomic number, usually lead or lead-containing substances, as a barrier to absorb unwanted X-rays. Distance protection refers to the principle that the amount of X-ray exposure is inversely proportional to the square of the distance, and the amount of exposure is reduced by increasing the distance between the X-ray source and the human body.

Threading into the human body will produce certain biological effects. If too much X-ray exposure exceeds the allowable exposure, radiation reactions may occur, and may even cause radiation damage to a certain extent.

However, the normal effects of medical lead glass are minimal if X-ray exposure is within the allowable range. There's no need to turn down essential X-rays and CTs because of radiation, and there's no need to dare people to go into a hospital's radiology department.
