Lead glass with higher resistance and refractive index
2022-07-14

Since lead glass is a variant of glass, the calcium component in it has been replaced by lead. And each piece of lead glass contains at least 24% lead oxide, so that it can maintain good optical transparency when absorbing high radiation X-rays.

Usually workers will feed lead oxide into the silo, and at the same time will put other raw materials needed to realize lead glass into it and mix with lead oxide, so that the glass has a specific color. The mixture is then fed into an electric furnace and fresh batches can be added to the melt upon request. Next, the molten homogeneous glass melt is extracted and cooled slowly to avoid residual stress. Secondly, further molding work is carried out by molding technology.

At the same time, compared with ordinary glass, lead glass has higher resistance and refractive index; and better fluidity, making lead glass easy to process and manufacture. Therefore, it is widely used in medical and research fields where visibility is required in procedures or experiments involving radiation.
